Philippe glanced at his watch and then at the portal. “They’re late.”
St. Reed stood in front of the band with his baton by his side. “We already had an opening day fanfare.”
“I know,” said Philippe, “but I was told that this was a very important arrival.” He checked his watch again and let out a heavy sigh. “There’s fashionably late, and then there’s just rude.”
“Is he here yet?” Sha Wujing came racing over the hillside out of breath.
“You’re in luck. They’re incredibly late,” said Philippe. “Furthermore… Yikes!” Philippe jumped back as he spied several large spiders following behind him. It took him a few seconds before he realized what was going on. “Oh, it’s Azi. I thought we were being invaded.”
He looked past Azi and realized that there were more arrivals behind her. Soon, they all gathered around the portal, nervously pacing back and forth.
“Well? Where is he?” snorted Niu Mowang.
“He hasn’t arrived yet,” replied Ao Lie. “In due time. Speaking of late…”
Pigsy slowly walked over the hillside towards the group. “Sorry I’m late. Diego and I were having a pie eating contest.”
“We have a pie eating contest going on right now?” asked Philippe.
“It was just between Diego and me.” He let out a large burp and groaned. “We started last night.”
Philippe shrugged. “I guess it doesn’t matter. Whomever this new arrival is seems to be taking their sweet time.”
St. Reed cocked his head towards the group. “Who the heck is all this fanfare for? Another ape?”
Bone Maiden step towards the portal and stared. “Not an ape, A monkey. And not just any monkey,” she said breathlessly. “THE monkey.”
