Welcoming Chris M., Avid Collectibles Fan And VIMworld’s New Social Media Guru!
Here at VIMworld, we focus on the future. We know that a solid team is crucial for delivering our vision of an expansive and interoperable SmartNFT metaverse. To reach that goal, we’re constantly on the hunt for top talent and continue to hire whatever the market conditions.
Today, we’re excited to announce the latest addition to our ever-growing team and new feather in our proverbial cap. An individual with ample experience building up grassroots social campaigns and growing online communities and even his own online business.
Let’s take a few moments to give a hearty welcome and get to know VIMworld’s new social media manager — Chris Manzenberger!
Hello Chris, welcome to the team! Tell us a little about yourself.
Hey VIMworld Community! Chris here, great to meet you all. I’m currently living in sunny Miami, Florida. A great place to live apart from the humid heat we get here! It’s already getting pretty toasty in this summer sun. My mom is Honduran so you’d think I’d be OK. Seems I got my dad’s US genetics instead.
Sounds humid! Can you tell us a little more about your background and experience?
Sure! My background has been pretty varied, but I’ve been able to learn a ton of skills I feel lend themselves well to this role.
I’ve been everything from waiter to hotel concierge. After about 10 years of work I became a manager at Starbucks, going on to manage a Fresh Juice bar at a later date. It was during these times I learned the power and potential of social media to mobilize people and build communities around common values.
Later on I got into the gaming industry as a community manager and went on to launch my own company with a friend, a venture that has turned out to be quite successful.
How did you find yourself in the world of social media?
I realized the power of social media when I was working at Starbucks. I helped kick start ‘Coffee Tasting Tuesdays’ by using pretty standard techniques, lots of hashtags, tagging everyone I could think of, consistent posting etc. We built a following of coffee fans and started a small community that would get together weekly for tasting sessions.
At the juice bar I started a ‘Store Takeover’ initiative, where the company Instagram was given to a different store each week showcasing store-exclusive products and building some fun brand identity around it.
I came up with culturally relevant product names like ‘Bad and ‘Boochi’ after Lil’ Uzi’s ‘Bad and Boujee’. I was pretty proud of that one. Our community loved it. That’s how I came to realize the power of social media for community development.
Great naming skills! How did your social media talents come to benefit your later roles?
Next, I went on to work for an online gaming community where we would run online events. We hosted gaming tournaments with various types of prize packs. We even did limited run campaigns with mousepads and computer gear — we almost always sold out on the back of our social campaigns.
From there I co-founded, ‘Two Geeks, One-Shop’, a name I feel we do NOT need to give any background for.
We built a growing online gaming community of like-minded individuals centered around the concept of Pokemon ‘pack breaks’. Essentially, our community purchases Pokémon packs from us and we Twitch stream the opening of their pack live to an online audience before mailing the cards across to their new owners.
Excellent work, Chris! Sounds like you have a great talent for community building. How about collectibles and NFTs, what drew you to them?
I’ve always loved collectibles, understanding them really helped me see the value of NFTs — limited edition, one-off instances of something with scarcity and desirability. I collect Funko Pops currently, I did have around 383, but recently sold around half.
I’m yet to buy my first VIM, but I really like the look and lore of GrOwl.
Excellent choices, Chris! You’re going to fit in well here. Do you have any fun closing things you’d like to share about yourself?
I can’t deny that I’m a huge geek, my moniker has always been geek5ter and I’m proud to say so. I was strongly encouraged by a great teacher to embrace my passions and always wear my heart on my sleeve, so that’s exactly what I do!
I am never the kind to give up early, I love to get stuck in and force things with all my strength. I’ve already been working on my plans for VIMworld’s social channels, watch this space!
Oh, and I love my dogs, that’s a big one. They’re called Zero, Leia and Joey — Zero is a black Labrador; the name comes from Nightmare Before Christmas. Joey, my Miniature Pinscher, is named after the Friends character because he’s pretty ditzy. Leia I think we can all guess — she’s an adorable little Shiatzu Terrier.
Thanks so much for letting us get to know you, Chris! It’s been a blast. Looking forward to seeing you more among the VIMworld community as our new Social Media Manager!
